Romans 6:1-14
Here Paul had a problem - his message was not quite being understood by the church. They thought that the gospel of grace meant a free pass to keep sinning in order that grave might grow.
Why be good?
Paul has been clear - our righteousness is not earned but given freely. So why be good?
In Christ we have power over sin in our lives. Not to say that we are made perfect, but that the power of Christ allows us to resist and reduce sinfulness in our life.
We have died in Christ and so have a few life in Him. Christ's victory is ours as well. He won for us like a sports team wins for their fans.
We are still troubled by sin - as those living in a fallen world with a sinful nature we experience temptation. But something has changed? We are no longer subject to sin, and no longer hold it's penalty. In Christ sin no longer rules over us.
Now we are free from sin, we are free to resist. In Adam we are unable to resist sin, but under Christ we are free to fight back against it. It still shows it's face , but we don't have to oblige to it. We have a choice to allow sin. So don't allow it.
