Romans 5:12-21
The one act of Jesus' selfless love brings us so many blessings. We are reconciled to Him even though we were like enemies and we can have unbounding joy. How does this all come through one man?
Death reigns through one man
Adam was one man, and through his singular act sin came into this world. Through that sin came death. Humankind was now in slavery to death and separation from God.
It's not that we all copy Adam. His one sin brought death to all as a rule of creation. Sin brought such damage to creation. We all sin in Adam as he acted as any one of us would have.
We reign in life through one man
Adam points us to a greater man - an Adam 2.0 who, like Adam, can perform one act to change history and the fabric of creation.
Unlike Adam who was selfish, Christ was self-sacrificing. He acted for you and me.
What Adam took was great. But Christ gives so much more than Adam took. The result of Christ's action brings justification. While death reigned in Adam, we reign in life. We are not moved from one ruler to another. We are moved from being subjects to being kings alongside the great king. Death serves us in that it is now to servant who carries us into the presence of Christ our saviour.
The reign of grace in one man
There is still so.much sin and failure in our lives. How can we be right with God? Such is the joy that comes from realising that Jesus took it all the the cross out of love and grace.
